Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced that short-term crop loans from cooperative banks and loans of up to two lakh rupees from nationalised and other banks will be waived.
Talking to media persons in Jaipur last evening, Gehlot said entire short-term crop loans from cooperative banks will be waived. Along with this, loans of the defaulting farmers up to two lakh rupees from nationalised and other banks will also be waived. He said this will put a burden of eight thousand crore rupees on the state exchequer.
Gehlot said with this announcement, the Congress' promise to waive farmer loans within ten days of the government's formation has been fulfilled.
Meanwhile, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi tweeted:
