Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma has confirmed that the most infectious variant of the COVID-19, 'Delta' has now been detected in the state.
CM Sangma said, "We are seeing that the situation is different in different districts and now we are definitely seeing after doing the genome sequence of a large number of samples that this is more of a delta variant that we have which is a very highly infectious and high spreading variant."
"Therefore, we have seen the spread that is taking place throughout the state. We are now seeing that the spread is happening in other districts as well. We have seen three districts like West Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills – which have crossed and touched about 70-80 cases on an average in the last few days," he added.
As per the statements made by Meghalaya chief minister, the Covid-19 cases again crossed 600 on Thursday and the recoveries have marked less than 500.
The CM further added, "We will have to observe in the next few days and see how the strategy goes and make sure that the rural areas and rural infrastructures are also equally prepared for the situation."
As many as 603 more cases of COVID-19 and 10 deaths were detected in Meghalaya on Thursday. The state presently has 5,015 active cases of COVID-19.
