Assam government today will launch a wage compensation scheme for pregnant women in tea gardens of the state with the goal of providing better health and nutrition supplements to the pregnant women.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will launch the scheme in Guwahati along with Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also likely to attend the programme.
An amount of Rs. 12,000 will be given to the pregnant women so that they care take care of themselves and the unborn baby without compromising the livelihood of their family.
Over 60,000 women are likely to be benefited by the scheme. The compensation of wages to pregnant women will be given in 4 installments.
The wage compensation scheme will help in to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality in the tea areas of Assam.
