Tripura to Hand Over 20 Schools to ISKCON

TripuraEducation Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday said that the Tripura Governmenthas decided to hand over 20 state-run schools including 13 closed institutions toISKCON to run them.

The 13schools are closed as they don't have any student and that there are only 10studnts in almost 147 government schools.

Addressing apress conference, Nath said, "The council of ministers in its meeting held onThursday evening decided to hand over 20 schools including the closed 13schools and seven schools from 147 schools which have maximum 10 students tothe authorities of International Society for Krishna Consciousness who agreedto provide quality education in those schools."

Nath saidthat the Indian Tribal Care Trust, a wing of ISKCON would run the schoolsadding that the schools are located in remote and tribal areas of the state.

Nath furtherstated that the BJP-IPFT government which came to power in the state last yearafter ousting the Left Front was trying to reform the education system in thestate. He also informed that that at first ISKCON opted for 53 schools but theyhave decided to give them 20 schools for five years of which 7 in West Tripuradistrict, one in Gomati district, two in Khowai district, three in Sepahijaladistrict and seven in South Tripura district would be handed over to them forfive years and they promised to impart quality education.
