Along with Assam, polling in Tripura East constituency, which was postponed in the second phase by the Election Commission due to inadequate security personnel, is also underway in this phase.
There are 10 contestants, including two women, in the Tripura East seat, however, there is a big fight for the seat among four candidates. They are Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) sitting MP Jitendra Choudhury, Bharatiya Janata Party's Rebati Tripura and Maharaj Kumari Pragya Deb Barman (Congress), who is state Congress chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman's elder sister and IPFT's NC Debbarma.
There are a total of 11, 40, 269 voters in the constituency. Out of the total, 5, 81, 599 are male voters and 5, 58, 670 female voters.
Voting has begun at 7 am in the constituency which also witnessed long queues of voters.
