Tribal committee calls for Assam Bandh on Friday
Updated on

At a time, when the Central government tabled a Bill in the Rajya Sabha proposing to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities of Assam; a committee of various other tribal organisations has opposed the Centre's move to grant ST status to the six communities.

The organisations under the banner of the Coordination Committee of the Tribal Organisations of Assam (CCTOA), has called for a 24-hour Assam bandh starting from 5AM on January 11 (Friday).

The bandh has been called in protest against the amendment of the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 to include certain communities, which included Chutiya, Matak, Moran, Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom and Adivasi, in the list of the scheduled tribes in relation to Assam.
