Updated on

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Assam State Branch called for a statewide withdrawal of all medical services including emergency in all Tea Garden hospitals in Assam from 6 am of 02 September till 6 am of 03 September and sought a central law for ensuring protection to doctors against violence in hospitals.

Since no resolution is coming across after all the solidarity shown by the medical fraternity, IMA calls for the withdrawal of medical services excluding emergency by doctors all over the state from 6 am to 6 pm on 03 September. IMA called the entire medical fraternity (even Private Hospitals) to join the protest on 3rd September.

IMA also called for an exemplary protest demonstration on 02 September at 10 am and a candle light procession from 7 pm by doctors all over the state with pictorial placards of Dr. Dutta.

"We have decided to arrange a general meeting in the sideline of Lokabandhu Day by all members all throughout the local branches to discuss the issue with concrete suggestions to the state branch for further actions." said IMA Assam State Branch President Dr Satyajit Borah.

In view of the tragic incidence of murder of Dr. D. Dutta in Teok T. E. IMA also demanded :

  1. Immediate lockout of Teok TE until all culprits are arrested under all strict legal provisions.
  2. Sufficient security staff in all plantation hospitals and medical units including Personal Security to all allopathic doctors employed in the Tea Gardens.
  3. CCTV installation in all vulnerable corners in the tea garden medical units.
  4. Written assurances from tea garden workers unions regarding protection of doctors.
