The provincialized colleges in Assam can now take a sigh of relief after the state education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya announced that the government will recruit teachers to fill in the 1000 vacant assistant teachers positions.
"We will recruit and see that students' don't suffer," the minister said in an official statement.
The minister also informed that presently 231 teachers' positions will be filled in 54 colleges of the state.
With the announcement, the state's provincialized colleges will now witness new recruitments after a span of over 26 years.
As per records, it was in 1992 when there were recruitments in the colleges in the state.
President of Assam College Principal Council (ACPC) Hiranya Chaliha has welcomed the step and said that the move is going to benefit the students immensely.
The Assam government had earlier prohibited the engagement of those teaching staff in provincialized colleges who were engaged in a casual or temporary basis.
It may be mentioned here that had the government not decided to recruit new teachers in the colleges across the state, then the biggest losers would have been the students. The admission procedure in colleges is already over and the new session is set to start from August.
