Guwahati police today arrested a surrendered ULFA cadre after he was caught red handed collecting extortion money from a businessman.
The arrested person, Depan Das, was picked up by Bharalumukh Police while he was collecting the money from a Dhubri based businessman.
Das has been accused of collecting the extortion money on behalf of former ULFA commander Drishti Rajkhowa aka Manoj Rabha. Rajkhowa demanded for Rs 10 lakh from the businessman and Das was present to collect the first sum of Rs 1 lakh.
The police have recovered Rs 1 lakh, two mobile phones and a surrender identity card from Depan Das.
Meanwhile, one more ULFA cadre was arrested in Goalpara in relation to the case following inputs from Das in police custody.
