Stand Against CAB Remains Unchanged: Manjit Mahanta
Updated on

"Stand against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) remains unchanged," said veteran journalist Manjit Mahanta while interacting with media persons in Guwahati Press Club on Tuesday.

Noted literary critic and social scientist Dr Hiren Gohain and former Assam DGP Harekrishna Deka were also present in the press interaction.

Speaking about the impact of CAB on the just concluded Lok Sabha elections, Mahanta said, "CAB certainly had an impact in the elections in Assam as BJP's vote share in the state decreased this time in comparison to 2014."

Dr Gohain, lashing out at the saffron party, questioned about the source from where the party receives huge amount of money.

"From where does the party get so much of funds? The nation's economy is at a deplorable condition. The rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer," Dr Gohain said.

Coming down heavily on the opposition, the septuagenarian scholar said, "The opposition has miserably failed to properly address the issues."

Echoing Manjit Mahanta's views, Dr Gohain also said that the protests against CAB were successful and thus evident in the decrease in vote share of the saffron party in the state.
