The new Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), Prof. Dr Dipika Deka has introduced a circular that mentioned a dress code for the faculty, officers and staff in the university premises.
All medical Colleges of Assam including Assam Medical College, Gauhati Medical College and Silchar Medical College are running their courses under SSUHS. However, the medical colleges in the State have not yet received any circular regarding the dress code for the faculty members. Also the circular issued by the VC mentioned dress code only in the university premises. The circular stated, "…it is required that all male and female faculty, officials and staff should be attired in an appropriate, formal, clean, modest and decent manner in the University premises." So it has not been made clear whether the circular regarding the dress code would be applied to the faculties of the medical colleges or not.
Meanwhile, the staff of the SSUHS has accepted the dress code circular issued by the VC. But the Grade-III and Grade-IV staff of the University complained that they have been receiving only 80% of their salaries since 2016. "It's been ten years since the establishment of the University, but government has denied paying equal amount of salaries to us in comparison to the other universities in the State. We are only receiving 80 percent of our salaries," said a Grade-IV employee of SSUHS.
