Social media under scanner: Assam DGP

Kuladhar Saikia,  Assam Director General of Police said on Monday that he had issued strict orders to the superintendents of police of all districts to remain alert on the issue of youths joining the ULFA (I) and that the social media platforms are under scanner.

Saikia said, "I have also asked the special branch to remain alert and take necessary action in the matter whenever they get any input."

"Our special team is monitoring and investigating the suspicious activities in the social media. We are in contact with Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland police forces and we have asked them to deploy more forces in the routes where suspicious movement of youths to join the ULFA-I usually takes place" added Saikia.

The DGP also asked the police administration of the districts to verify if they get any information of recruitment in ULFA in their respective districts.

It may be mentioned that there has been a recent  inclination of Assamese youths towards the banned outfit including ULFA (I) supremo Paresh Baruah's nephew Munna Baruah who joined ULFA (I) recently.

The Assam DGP said his department is ready to deal with any untoward situation that might occur during panchayat elections across the state.
