SMSS Leader Manash Konwar Released from Jail

The Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), the student unit of KMSS leader Manash Konwar has been released in bail from Guwahati Central Jail on Tuesday. Konwar was granted bail on Monday by NIA court but he was not released from jail given an excuse of the jail premises being declared as Containment Zone as large numbers of its inmates are tested positive for COVID-19.

After being released from jail, Konwar said that the inmates are exploited inside the prison adding that the fight against anti-Assam activities will continue.

He also said that the movement against the Citizenship Amendment Act will also continue.

Notably, 95% of the inmates in jail have tested positive of the virus but only a few have been taken to hospital and the rest are still in the jail premises which now creates panic among the other inmates, staff and the people in and around the jail.

Moreover, KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi and his associates Bitu Sonowal and Dharjya Konwar have also tested positive of the virus and are now under treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Meanwhile, the advocate who argued for KMSS namely Krishna Gogoi, Kishore Kumar Kalita, Manoj Kumar Deuri and Surajit Bairagi have filed a plea at CJM Court seeking security, safety and to provide treatment for the inmates of Guwahati Central Jail.
