Sikkim paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the Galwan Valley clash between India and China during a special programme named "Veeron Ko Naman". Governor, Ganga Prasad and CM, P.S. Golay attended the occasion along with other public representatives and members of civil society and social organizations. Union DoNER minister Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy and BJP national general secretary , Ram Madhav also joined via online mode.
The ceremony kicked-off with presentation of Arms by Sikkim Armed Forces and Sikkim Police Band, and laying of wreath on the memorial of the 20 martyrs by the Governor, CM and other dignitaries.
As reported by local media, the Governor said on the occasion, "Our martyrs have given their lives in the border for our safety and security, their sacrifice is a befitting reply to the Chinese who tried to underestimate our strengths. India is no longer like it was in 1962 and the new India knows how to protect the country and fight against those who try to deceit us."
The CM, in his address, reportedly said, "The government and people of Sikkim are committed to provide all possible support in safeguarding the nation. The country has always been safe under the constant vigil of the brave soldiers. We are proud of these martyrs. I also pay homage to their families especially their mothers who lost their sons. I am proud to be a part of a country that believes in unity in diversity."
Madhav lauded the endeavor of the Sikkim government towards organising such a befitting ceremony.
