As the Assam government failed to control the rising prices of onion, Assam BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev had to return empty-handed from a market in Guwahati.

Searching onion at Rs. 65per kg, the MLA went to Ulubari Bazar on Sunday morning. But to hisdisappointment, the sellers have not agreed to provide him onion at less thanRs. 85 per kg.

Accepting the risingprices of onion, MLA Dev said, "It is indeed true that onions are costlier thanthey used to be. They (sellers) are selling it at around Rs. 85 per kg in thismarket." Later, the MLA went to another market in search of cheaper onions.

However, the BJP MLA maintained that the prices of onion have gone up due to supply shortage and not due to the involvement of middle-men.

It may be mentioned herethat recently another BJP MLA Prasanta Phukan had said that Onions are sold atRs. 65 per kg in different Guwahati markets; which drew sharp criticism from thepeople in the city.
