Senior Resident Doctors launch indefinite strike in JNIMS
Updated on

Over 100 senior resident doctors (SR) of Jawarharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Manipur have launched an indefinite cease work strike over service anomalies and resentment over direct selection of Assistant Professors through open DPC on Tuesday.

The agitation of the SRs surfaced after a recent advertisement for selection of fresh candidates for the post of Assistant Professors had been released, stated Resident Welfare Committee Spokesperson S Bikramaditya.

Bikramaditya said that at least 77 regular SRs selected back in 2010 have been working for the medical institute cum hospital but have been deprived from the provisions of Service Rules, particularly related to promotion to Assistant Professors, despite having more than four to nine years of experience.

He claimed "there is no established scheme for career advancement of SRs".

On the other hand, opposing any form of direct selection of Assistant Professors through open DPC for existing vacancies without consideration of the existing experienced SRs, Bikramaditya termed it as "blatantly wrong" and totally unacceptable requesting immediate cancellation of direct selection through open DPC.

He also said that selection of fresh candidates under direct DPC will render the long serving SRs inferior to them and will create a working environment that will be detrimental to all.

In a similar instance, atleast 70 JNIMS doctors took a day-long mass casual leave demanding implementation of Old Pension Scheme.

The protest over the service anomalies by Senior Resident Doctors and implementation of Old Pension Scheme by other doctors has severely affected the normal functioning of the full-fledged medical college, informed an administrative staff.
