Ripun Bora opposes oil privatisation

AssamRajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora on Wednesday gave Zero Hour Notice in the Upper Houseof the Parliament over privatisation of 64 oil fields. He opposed the proposedprivatization of these oil fields.

Itmay be mentioned here that recently, the Ministry of Petroleum has invitedtender for privatisation of oil fields across the country.

"It isvery unfortunate that the Ministry of Petroleum has invited tender forprivatisation of these 64 oil fields," the MP said, adding, "These oil fieldsare under maintenance of ONGC and Oil India Limited. And these organisationsare two of the biggest profit making public sector undertakings, which are alsogiving employment opportunities to lakhs of youths."

Boraalso said that since both ONGC and OIL are earning profits for the country, thesame will also go to the private sector.

"Thisis not in the interest of our country. This is not in the interest of theeconomy of our country," the senior Congress MP said and appealed that thepetroleum minister should stop this privatisation process.
