Football action resumes in Guwahati on Saturday as NorthEast United host title holders Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai. Both sides take to field for the first time after the winter break.
NorthEast United, who are placed 4th in the league standings, will eye their maiden entry into the Playoffs this season after their impressive run of form in the first half of the season. With six games in hand, the Highlanders would believe they can stretch their good run forward. Greek-German attacking midfielder Panagiotis Triadis is the latest addition to the squad in the winter transfer window.
Chennaiyin, meanwhile have no hopes of finishing in the Top 4 after a disappointing start to the season. The southerners have won just once in twelve outings till now. However, they have bolstered their squad keeping Asian Cup and Hero Super Cup challenges in view.
Halicharan Narzary and forward CK Vineeth, both from Kerala Blasters have agreed to join the Super Machans in loan deals for the rest of the season. This will be a good opportunity for John Gregory to test his squad and get the combination right ahead of continental cup matches.
