In a bizarre incident, rats resorted to a new food dish in Assam's Tinsukia district as the rodents tore to shreds currency notes worth Rs 12 lakh inside a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM.

The pictures of damaged currency notes and dead rats have gone viral on Social Media following the incident.

The SBI ATM at Laipuli area of Tinsukia, which was reportedly out of order, was shut down for public use since May 20.

A private security firm, FIS Global Business Solutions, had deposited Rs 2000 and Rs 500 notes amounting Rs 29.48 lakh on May 19 in the ATM but to their horror, the machine went out of order the next day.

A complaint has been registered at Hijuguri police station by SBI. However, bank officials did recover currency notes worth Rs 17.10 lakh without any damage.
