Diwali is known as the festival of lights and not sound. And that's exactly why Pratidin Time has launched a campaign #SayNoToPollution. The campaign aims at reducing the hazards of the boisterous celebrations of Diwali and the threat it poses to our environment. Pratidin Time also aims to spread awareness amongst people and tirelessly work to sustain quality of life, safeguarding the interests of elder people, children, women, minors and animals too.
People from various fields have shown their support towards the #SayNoToPollution campaign.
Education Minister of Assam Siddhartha Bhattacharya appealed to the people of Assam so support the campaign.
Singer and Composer Mansash Robin also appealed the people of the state to celebrate this Diwali with light and not with sound.
In Mangaldai the Administration has taken the initiative of Green Diwali under the aegis of Mangaldai Municipal Board. Many NGO's took part in the 'Green Rally'. The Mangaldai Municipal Board administration also appealed the people to plant trees.
The students of Nagaon College also organised an event called 'Celebrate Polution Free Diwali' to raised awareness of sound and noise pollution during diwali.
Noise and air pollution during Diwali compromises the respiratory system of even a normal individual besides adversely affecting the blood pressure and nervous system. Over the past few years, cities like Guwahati are also facing paradigm shift in the environment, it was a city popular for its "Moderate" and pleasant weather but now the temperate is rising exponentially.
Even though the nearby areas of Mahendra Mohan Chaudhary Hospital were declared 'silent zone' during diwali, the patients had to face a lot of problems due to the loud crackers in the past years. The doctors of MMCH appreciated Pratidin Time's campaign.
Poor air quality across the country has also prompted the Supreme Court to come up with immediate measures to curb rising air pollution. From partially banning fireworks to setting the time limit on bursting of crackers, the court has issued guidelines on almost every aspect of the festival. The SC guidelines include no bursting of crackers from 10 pm to 6 am during diwali.
