Polling for the 40-member Mizoram Assembly and 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly gets underway.

Amid tight security, polling had began at 7 am in Mizoram.

Reportedly in Mizoram, In all 768,181 voters, including 393,685 women, would decide the electoral fate of the 209 candidates, of whom 15 are women.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla is seeking a third consecutive term as the BJP looks to evacuate the Congress in its last stronghold in the Northeast. In Madhya Pradesh, the Congress is seeking to throw out the BJP which has been in power in for the last 15 years.

This morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the people of Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh to participate in large numbers as polling got underway in both states.

The polling would continue till 4 pm and 5 pm, respectively.

Votes will be counted on December 11 along with three other poll-bound states — Rajasthan, Telangana and Chhattisgarh
