Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Saturday speaking to the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio took stock of the flood situation in parts of the State.
Modi assured all possible support to the state in the rescue and relief operations.
Taking to Twitter Modi said, "Spoke to Nagaland CM @Neiphiu_Rio and took stock of the situation in the wake of floods in parts of the state. Assured all possible support to the state in the rescue & relief operations. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Nagaland and pray for everyone's wellbeing."
Reportedly, at least 12 people have died so far with the state's road network badly damaged, basic essential commodities are either being air dropped or shipped on smaller vehicles to the farthest possible.
It may be noted here that Nagaland had donated Rs 1 crore for the Kerala Flood relief at a time when the state itself is reeling under similar circumstances.
As per reports, incessant rainfall in the last few weeks has flooded several areas of Nagaland. The state government has reportedly sought an advance amount of Rs 100 crore from the Centre to restore connectivity in the region.
According to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority officials, about 359 locations of roads including NH-29, have been totally cut off due to heavy rains and subsequent landslides. All the 11 districts in the state are affected, of which Kiphire, which borders Myanmar, has been announced as the worst affected. For immediate relief, Rs 10 lakh has been sanctioned from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to Kiphire.
