PM Modi to lay Hollongi Airport foundation stone in February

The Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Pema Khandu on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Hollongi Airport in Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in February. The proposed airport is merely 13 KM from Gohpur under Biswanath district of Assam.

Speaking at a programme in East Siang district, the Arunachal Pradesh CM informed that the project has finally been settled by the Government. "The Central Government finally accorded sanction for construction of the Hollongi Airport in December last year. Now the project will start with the laying of foundation by the Prime Minister in February this year," Khandu said.

The CM further said that the Government has completed construction of the Bogibeel rail-cum-road bridge over the Brahmaputra river in Assam and introduced the Tinsukia-Naharlagun passenger train to ease communication between Arunachal and upper Assam and other areas.

It should be noted that the Airport will be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,043 crore, including Rs. 955.37 crore as Central share and Rs. 87 crore being State share. The government set a target to have the airport ready within 4 years.
