PM lays foundation stone and inaugurates projects at Itanagar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday laid foundation stones and inaugurated several development projects at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh.

The PM laid the foundation stone of Hollongi airport near Itanagar. Besides inaugurating a 110 MW hydro electric project, he also inaugurated a retrofitted airport at Tezu in Lohit district.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated Arun Prabha channel of Doordarshan and laid the foundation stone of a Film and Television Institute, near Itanagar. He also laid the foundation stone Sella Tunnel and its approach road in Tawang district. PM Modi also declared 100% household electrification the State.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister took a dig at previous Congress-led government in the country. He blamed the party of ignoring the region since independence. "Previous government neglected this state for decades but we are here to change this. New India can only be built if North East can be developed well," said the PM adding, "Our government allocated Rs 44,000 crore funds to Arunachal Pradesh which is double the amount provided by the previous government."

"Tezu airport was built over 50 years but no government envisioned to connect people of Arunachal Pradesh with other parts of the country. We expanded the airport by spending around Rs 125 crore," said PM.
