In Mizoram, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), a students' organization of Mizoram, pushed back about 210 travellers during their drive against illegal immigrants. Reportedly, the people without NRC documents 'pushed back' by the students' body on Friday. The drive has initiated to check influx of immigrants into the state and set up check points on the Assam- Mizoram border. MZP had set up check-gates and stopped travellers from Assam to question them about their identity in an attempt to prevent any movement of illegal migrants from Assam after the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft publication.
As per statement of MZP general secretary Lalnunmawia Pautu, the students' body of the hilly state has started check points at three points on the state border route through Assam's Cachar district and Mizoram's Kolasib district and about 200-MZP activists are at work.
He also added that MZP activists will continue the drive against illegal migrant independently. They are asking travellers to produce Inner Line Permit (ILP) papers and the NRC document at the border.
