Peace-talk not in last stage: Anup Chetia

The peace-talk between the Centre and the pro-talkfaction of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) is not in the finalstage. Pro-talk ULFA leader Anup Chetia on Tuesday denied peace interlocutor ABMathur's earlier claim suggesting Centre's discussion with pro-talk ULFA are atits last stage.

Participating in a public meeting in Nagaon, the ULFAleader said that due to the ongoing issue regarding Clause VI of Assam Accord, their talk with the Centre is expected to last few more months rather thanending within two months.

"We want to ensure constitutional safeguards and landrights for the indigenous people of Assam," said Chetia.

It may be mentioned here that earlier in the month, while participating in a book release event held in India International Centre (IIC) in New Delhi, AB Mathur had said that the peace agreement with ULFA is expected to be signed within two months.

Later in the month, ULFA leaders including Arabindo Rajkhowa, Sasha Choudhury, and Anup Chetia held formal discussion with interlocutor Mathur in New Delhi and expressed their satisfaction over the peace-talk.
