In a significant development, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced that coronavirus infected patients in home isolation will be provided with a pulse oximeter and first-line supportive medicine for free in Guwahati.
Sarma in a tweet said, "From tomorrow, we will provide patient preferring to stay in home isolation a pulse oximeter and first-line supportive medicine completely free in Guwahati City".
Low oxygen levels are one of the prime indicators of coronavirus infection. The usage of a pulse oximeter is a non-invasive and painless method to monitor one's pulse rate.
Provisions of tele-medicine service have also been activated for the patients. "We have also activated the Tele Medicine service for them through 104," the minister stated.
Sarma also stressed that these services will be "expanded to other places soon".
