Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday handed over a cheque of Rs. 20lakhs to Assam Rifles martyr Pranay Kalita's wife. The Chief Minister paid a visit to the bereaved family and shared his grief and condolences. Sonowal also paid floral tribute to the portrait of Martyr Kalita.
Paying visit to the martyr's house, the Chief Minister said, "The state is proud of his valiance and sense of duty towards his nation. His sacrifice is a source of inspiration, devotion and dedication for the youth across the nation. He also said that his duty towards safeguarding the unity, sovereignty and integrity of the nation will not go in vain. Responding to a demand, Sonowal also said that the road leading to the residence of the slain Jawan will be face lifted and named after the name of the Jawan."
It may be noted that Pranay Kalita along with few others from Assam Rifles, while on duty, was targeted by the proscribed militant group in Manipur's Chandel district on July 29 and they succumbed to the attack. His last rites were performed in his native village at Ghatbar with full state honours on July 31.
