Teli to meet Heavy Industries Minister again regarding the issue of paper mills

Reactingto government's decision to permanently shut down Nagaon and Cachar paper millsin Assam, Dibrugarh MP and Union Minister Rameswar Teli said that he is notaware of what the Union Heavy Industries Minister Arvind Sawant had told theRajya Sabha and will meet the minister again to discuss the issue.

Telifurther said that he along with other Assam MPs and Assam Minister PijushHazarika had met Sawant earlier this month and asked him to revive the twopaper mills, to which the Union Minister gave his assurance.

It may be mentioned here that Sawant on Monday informed the Rajya Sabha that the government is following National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) order and will shut down the mills.

Speaking to media, Teli also said that he met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday regarding the issue. "I even asked for special packages for both the paper mills," Teli said.

Meanwhile, president of Cachar Paper Project Workers' Union (CPPWU) Manabendra Chakraborty said that Arvind Sawant's statement was based on the May 2, 2019, order of NCLT, but on May 29, 2019, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) ordered that the service of the mills should continue and their employees or workers should attend their duties as usual.
