Hearing a plea over the revival of Nagaon and Cachar Paper mills, the Supreme Court on Monday directed a non-governmental organization (NGO) to move Gauhati High court (GHC) for further judicial exercise in this regard.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi was hearing the petition filed by Drishtee Foundation – a non-governmental organization in the state.
Cachar Paper Mill and Nagaon Paper Mill have been non-functional since October 2015 and March 2017 respectively and the workers have not received their salaries for more than two years.
Earlier, the Government made it clear that they are following the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) order and close down both the mills. The information was given in a reply to a question raised by Congress MP Ripun Bora in the upper house.
