Panjabari Puja brings Hindus, Muslims together

Amid all the communal discord India is immersed in, a puja committee in the city organizing Durga Puja celebrations is an example to reinforce the feeling of communal harmony in the country.

The Biponon Khetra Panjabari puja committee is gearing up for Durga puja celebration, "Setting an example of harmony amid the country's communal tension, Muslim artists will be seen chanting mantras and performing musical night." Organizers' said.

In addition to this, the committee has picked the theme 'go green' to ensure a pollution-free environment. The committee will be having its pandal (marquee) this year on the theme of commemorating Assam's music maestro Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

The pandal will showcase his work and immense contribution towards Assamese cinema, art, and culture. Renowned sculptor of North East Biren Singha will be sculpting statues which will showcase the rich culture and heritage of Assam. Here, people will be able to witness paintings by Artist Madhusudan Das.

Durga Puja in Guwahati is about hopping from one pandal to another, gazing at themes, decor, and idols. But, this puja committee is upholding perhaps the true spirit of all festivals.

"Durga puja is not just religious but it is also a part of our cultural traditions. The festival has also become a part of our process to rehabilitate and integrate them into mainstream society. It helps the inmates in building bonds with each other and the whole shelter home becomes like a family," they said.
