The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau on Friday rescued a pangolin at Maligaon, Guwahati and arrested three persons in connection with it.
As per reports, the pangolin was rescued during a joint operation conducted by the police and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau.
Officials have informed that the three persons, who hail from Dalgaon in Darrang district, had purchased the animal for Rs 1.5 lakh and were planning to sell it for Rs 40 lakh.
It may be mentioned here that the pangolin is a highly endangered animal in the country and is among the most hunted and trafficked one in the world. Their scales are used in traditional medicine; their meat is also considered a delicacy in certain countries.
