The National Students Union of India (NSUI) today alleged that the State Education Board of Assam (SEBA) for having not taken any efficient measures regarding the reduction of the syllabus of class 9, 10,11 and 12 and appealed to the SEBA chairman and the education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to reduce the syllabus by at least 30%.
In the wake of coronavirus infection, the students' body wrote the memo to the SEBA Chairman and sent a copy of the education minister of Assam to reduce the syllabus of standard 9,10,11,12. The statement said, "Amid the COVID-19 crisis the students have been unable to attend their regular classes for which it is very much impractical to allow them to attend their final examinations with the complete syllabus that was earlier notified by the State board".
"Moreover, without proper classes, if such decision of implementing the full syllabus upon the students of the State Boards is taken, then this will not only create excessive pressure on the students but also increase their mental and physical stress," NSUI further added.
NSUI cited the instance of the Central Board of Secondary Education has already issue a notification that they will reduce their syllabus from 25 % to 30% which is very much convenient to the students from the Central Boards.
"Also, if such decision is not withdrawn on the assumption that online classes for a period of two and half months can easily complete the course curriculum then it will completely make a wrong notion as many students from the backward area are already deprived of such online classes facility," the body emphasized.
Making an appeal, the NSUI said, "So we made an appeal to kindly bring down the syllabus of the State Board to at least 30% so that all the students, irrespective of different backgrounds, can avail the benefits and can fully concentrate on those topics which can be completed with the offline classes in the schools and colleges with the remaining time period before ending up the session".
