NRC pioneer gets Lachit Award

On the occasion of Lachit Divas, Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad (TAYPA) conferred Lachit Award to Pradip Kumar Bhuyan and Banti Bhuyan (whose consistent efforts made the NRC update a reality in Assam) today (24th November) at Sankaradeva Kalashetra in Guwahati.

TAYPA felicitated the couple with the title for their heroism and true patriotism for the state, like the legendary Lachit Barphukan.

It may be mentioned that – the NRC update could become a reality because of the Bhuyans' dedication, hard work and sacrifice. The couple spent Rs 75 lakh from their personal account so that the NRC update could see the light of the day. Their selfless service made publication of the draft NRC possible.

Conferring the award, TAYPA said that "Our felicitation is just a small token of appreciation for their huge service to the state and the Assamese community"

The award comprised Rs 50,000 in cash.

Earlier TAYPA had felicitated then Assam governor S.K. Sinha in 2012, Captain Jintu Gogoi (posthumously) in 2013, athlete Bhogeshwar Barua in 2015, intellectual Hiren Gohain in 2016 and businessman Jayanta Barua in 2017.
