Knownfor his highly controversial Statements, BJP MLA from Hojai constituencyShiladitya Dev is once again at the centre of another controversy with hiscomments on the NRC update process.

Dev said that the NRC process is not going in the right direction, which has only provided the Bangladeshi Muslims to become Indian citizens, adding that it will not provide any protection to the Assamese people.

The MLAhas said that Assam will not make any gain from the NRC, but has a lot to loseas Assam can't accept 10 lakh people from a specific community but the state isgoing to bear the burden of 1.5 crore people.

"The central government should give absolute liability to the state government in this regard": Dev added.

Lambasting the state NRC Co-ordinator Prateek Hajela, Dev claimed that names of Indian citizens were excluded and illegal Bangladeshi migrants were included in the draft.

Both the governmentsmoved the apex court on July 17 seeking a direction for 20 percent samplere-verification of names included in the final NRC draft in the districts ofAssam bordering Bangladesh and 10 percent sample re-verification of namesincluded in the final draft in the remaining districts.
