Still Not Hopeful of Error-Free NRC: APW

The Assam Public Works (APW) will file an affidavit in the SupremeCourt on July 1 regarding the re-verification process of National Register ofCitizens (NRC) data as per the order of the top court given to the NRCcoordinator.

Addressing a press conference here in Guwahati, APW President AbhijeetSarma said, "The NRC authorities should make it clear that the people of Assamwill get a clean NRC by giving advertisements in the newspaper. It is doubtfulwhether the NRC which would be published on July 31 will be correct or not asthe NRC authorities has not yet followed the order of the Supreme Court that itshould re-verify the names of 10% of the data."

Sarma further alleged that the Morigaon Deputy Commissioner has clearlysaid that many names of foreigners have been included in the NRC. He furtheralleged that many doubtful names from 22 districts have been included in theNRC for which the top court asked the authorities to re-verify the 10% data ofNRC but the authorities have not yet done so and they are now ready to publishthe final NRC on July 31.

The APW raised questions as why the NRC authorities have not done there-verification process of 10% data and that how can they publish the final NRCwithout re-verification.

The APW will also appeal the Supreme Court to withdraw the votes of thepeople who have more than two children.
