Traffic police held a press conference on Monday, during which they declared new routes for traffic movement in Guwahati during Durga Puja. A total of 950 traffic police will be deployed in the city for maintaining law and order during this period.
The festive season as always fills hearts of the people with enthusiasm and happiness. But there is no denying that these festivities also bring a lot of chaos on the roads along with it. Traffic becomes one of such issues which creates problem not only for the commuters but for the authority as well.
In the meeting, the police stated that vehicles will not be allowed in and around Puja Mandaps. Vehicles will have to be parked at a distance of 400 to 500 metres.
There were also a few routes which have been declared as a NO ENTRY. These are:
- Beltola – Basistha
- Beltola – Jayanagar
- Beltola – Bhetapara
- Maligaon Chariali
- Maligaon – Pandu
- Nepali Mandir
- AK Azad Road
- Zoo Road – Ganesh Mandir
On the other hand there are a few roads which have been turned to ONE WAY road. These are:
- Ganeshguri RP Road
- Bharalumukh – Sarabbhati
Vehicles carrying goods are also prohibited from entering the city at any hour as they will only be allowed from 4 am to 7 am.
The authorities will also be strict against drunk driver as checking for which will go on till 4 am.
