New Chief Justice Of Gauhati High Court takes oath

Justice A S Bopanna today took the oath of office as the new Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. He was administered the oath by Assam Governor Prof Jagadish Ch Mukhi.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbandana Sonowal and Law minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya besides top officials of Assam Government and Assam police as well as host of judges from the Gauhati High Court were there in the Raj Bhawan.

Born on May 20, 1959, Justice Bopanna enrolled as an advocate in 1984 and practised civil, Constitutional, company, service and labour matters in the High Court as well as in the Civil and Labour Courts. He worked as a legal advisor to all central public sector undertakings and as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel from 1999 to 2005. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Karnataka on January 6, 2006, and permanent judge on March 1, 2007.
