Football fanatics of Northeast are in for a treat with the new concept of a 'Fan Park' as Northeast United FC (NEUFC) is all set to host FC Goa in their inaugural match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2018 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati's Sarusajai today.
The fans will have more to cheer up this time round apart from just football action as club owner John Abraham confirmed that the Fan Park at the stadium premises, the first and only in India, will offer a lot more to the fans to experience with live concerts, games, laser shows, great food and much more.
The fan park is aimed at giving special attention to provide full entertainment to the fans, both on and off field, and an optimistic John Abraham believes that the fans would return home with nice memories. On the opening day, John will be present along with new track queen Hima Das to cheer the home team. The fan parks will be open on match days from 3 PM to 6.30 PM.
Speaking of the main encounter, NEUFC would want to start on a positive note as the last four seasons have been one to forget for the Higlanders. The team management, for the fifth time, decided to have a new coach and reshuffle all of its players with only a few left from the last season to represent the team again.
All eyes will be on NEUFC's new international recruit, former Paris Saint German (PSG) and Nigerian Striker Bartholomew Ogbeche. The experienced Nigerian international is expected to be Highlander's main threat upfront and will press hard to improve efficiency in front of goal for NEUFC.
The Guwahati based club has strengthened their defense this time with the signing of Croatian duo of Mato Grgic and Mislav Komorski, while Indian international Rowllin Borges expected to play the anchor role in midfield.
To the disappointment of Assamese fans, there is not a single player from Assam in this year's squad as the team management decided on releasing the only Assamese player from last season, Holicharan Narzary.
