Names of family members of Declared Foreigners not to be included in NRC, says Prateek Hajela

At a time when the process of upgrading NRC is underway, it has been made clear that names of brothers, sisters and family members of those declared as foreigners by the Foreigner Tribunals (FT) will not be included in the list.

NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela has ordered Deputy Commissioners (DC) of all districts not to include names of brothers, sisters and family members of Declared Foreigners (DF) in the FT.

The FT had declared 4,288 people as foreigners and therefore, their names and the names of their family members would not be included in NRC.

There are around two lakh registered complaints in FTs of various districts of Assam and as such names of these people will also not be included in the list.

In this context, a person named Ajijul Haque has registered a complaint against Prateek Hajela's orders of non-inclusion of family members of DFs at the Gauhati High Court and the hearing of which is scheduled to be on June 21.

The complete and final draft of the NRC is scheduled to be released on June 30.
