Myanmar to open gates for India on August 08

The India-Myanmar border road is set to be opened on August 08. Indians travelling to Myanmar would no longer require to obtain special permits and they would be given visas provided they possess passports.

Convenor of Manipur's Act East Policy Committee RK Shivachandra informed this while speaking to the media on Sunday.

A function would be held at Moreh to mark the occasion. It will be attended by Myanmar's Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population Permanent Secretary and Consul General of India in Myanmar Nandan Singh Bhaisora along with the Consul. High ranking officials of Manipur Government will also take part in the function.

A land route trade centre is also coming up for North Eastern States of India at Mandalay.

Though citizens of the two countries are allowed free movement up to 16 km of each other's territory, Indians who intended to travel beyond 16 km had to take special permits from the Myanmar authority.
