Movietonne, an online platform to stream Assamese and regional films, was launched on Saturday. These movies could be displayed, with the help of mobile apps, computers or smart TV, even at the remotest corners through the platform.
"The biggest problem of Assamese films is lack of space and time for screen. People want to watch these films, but they cannot due to very few number of halls and onslaught of outside films. Movietonne is trying to address that," Movietonne's Manas Pratim Kalita and Spandan Keot said in their joint presentation on the launch.
The duo informed that Movietonne is an online film streaming platform, where for the first time old and new Assamese films will be available for a minimum amount of Rs 40 only.
The platform's first batch of films include Aei Maatite, Local Kung Fu 2, Chaaknoiya, Shakira Aahibo Bokul Tolor Bihuloi, Dinabandhu, Adomya, Anuradha, Mriganabhi, Juye Poora Xoon, Samiran Barua Ahi Ase, Dikchow Banat Palaax, Jeeya Jurir Xubaax, Jajabor, Jaangfaai Joonaak and Bokul.
Kalita said that the website will also offer a platform for filmmakers to crowdfund their upcoming projects.
"We already have two upcoming films on board. We are offering many benefits at a minimal rate to the producers that other crowdfunding sites are not giving. We are hopeful that this will help the Assamese film industry a lot," he added.
