Mother Old Age Home’s foundation stone laid

In an effort to raise awareness for caring aging parents and grandparents, under the aegis of Editor-In-Chief Nitumoni Saikia 'Pratidin Time' raises huge amount for an old age home in Guwahati.

On the first day of New Year, the foundation stone of the old age home has been laid by eminent writer-cum- journalist Homen Borgohain at Moth Gharia in Guwahati.

Social activist Mukul Mahanta donated the land for the project. A couple of months ago, the 'Pratidin Time's program Abhimat, anchored by Editor in Chief Nitumoni Saikia, appealed to the viewers to contribute for an old age home, being constructed by a voluntary organisation.

During the show, Abhimat had raised over Rs 10 lakhs but money continued to flow in and till now, the total had exceeded Rs 1.7 crore.

The huge and overwhelming response and deluge of donation only proved that there was no dearth of well meaning souls.

The old age home is being run and managed by the duo Utpal Harsabardhan and Monika Sarma.

Utpal and Monika had faced a complex problem as they are running the old age home in rental house. And house owner notified them that they have to leave the house very soon. After which, the duo met Nitumoni Saikia and asked help.

Nitumoni Saikia constantly reminded everyone how serious the issue was and how any contribution would go a long way towards the campaign.
