Mob lynches youth in Manipur, five arrested

In repetition of the Abhi-Nil incident that took place in Assam few months back a youth in Manipur was lynched to death on Friday suspected to be a car-lifter. A mob of around 150 people including a personnel of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) were allegedly involved in the lynching the youth in Tharoijam of Manipur.

The victim, Farooque Khan was a budding entrepreneur from Lilong in Thoubal district returned home from Bangalore after completing his MBA. The incident took place when he went to meet one of his friend who happened to be his MCA batch mate.

A case has been registered in Tharoijam police station in this regard and five persons have been arrested. The villagers said that Farooque and two of his friends parked a car in front of a house that had a two-wheeler and jumped gate to get in.

The police said, "On seeing the villagers, the three managed to get out of the premises and drove out with the car. But had an accident a few metres after near a paddy field in the middle of the village. Of the three, two managed to flee from the village while one was immediately rounded up by the villagers,"

"Besides being a Muslim youth from Lilong in Thoubal district about 38 km from the site of incident no further information could be gathered," they added.
