The people of Assam observed Me-Dam-Me-Phi across the State on Thursday to offer tributes to the Ahom ancestors. People of all sections participate in the rituals in different places. Traditional offerings were also made on the occasion.
The word 'Me' means offering, 'Dam' means ancestors and 'Phi' means gods. So the word 'Me-Dam-Me-Phi' means oblations offered to the dead and sacrifices to gods.
