143 Animals Killed in Kaziranga Flood

The worsening flood situation in Kaziranga National Park has left 36 animals dead including five rhinos, twenty-five hog deer, two sambar, three wild boars and one elephant.

Moreover, a total of 52 animals including 44 hog deer and tworhinos have been rescued till now by forest officials, CWRC team and localpeople.

Three animals out of the 52 rescued have died while undergoingtreatment and three are being treated by CWRC staff.

Officials said that the other 43 animals have been released insafer areas after medical treatment.

The authorities of Kaziranga National Park said that 169 camps of the national park were submerged in flood-water on Wednesday.

The KNP authorities also informed that four camps in Bokakhat beat, 37 camps in Agaratoli range, 51 camps in Kohora range, 38 camps in Bagori range, 12 camps in the Burpahar range and 27 camps in Biswanath range of the park have been submerged by flood-waters.

The officials further informed that a flood monitoring cell andcontrol rooms have been established in all the Range offices and the divisionoffice, Bokakhat to regularly monitor flood levels.

Vehicles are also being provided with time cards to provide utmostsecurity to animals from being hunted.
