The Kamakhya Temple has secured third position in the SwachhIconic Place in Phase I under the Swachh Bharat Mission initiative. The awardwill be presented at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday (September 6).
The Swachh Bharat Mission authorities have selected the Kamakhyatemple for its planning and development and cleanliness during the AmbubachiMela which witnessed more than 20lakhs visitors.
The award was presented based on keeping the premises of someselected iconic places of heritage in the country neat and tidy which is beingcoordinated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in associationwith the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Culture, Ministry ofTourism and the respective state governments.
The Central government added a number of such places in the listof Swachh Iconic places in order to keep the iconic places of heritage in thecountry clean in three phases.
The iconic cultural places included in Phase I of thisinitiative are the Kamakhya Temple, Vaishnodevi Temple, Chhattrapati ShivajiTerminus, Taj Mahal, Tirupati Balaji Temple, Golden Temple, Manikarnika Ghat,Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Meenakshi Temple and Jagannath Temple.
The Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and Kashmir has received thefirst position in the list of iconic places.
