The news of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)'s no return to Assam has stirred controversy in the state. Reacting on the news, AASU Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said that the JPC has to listen to the people of Assam and the northeast.
Bhattacharya has alleged both central and state government of being involved in conspiracy. "Through the controversial Bill, the government wants to hinder the process of upgrading the NRC", he said.
Reiterating that the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, will not be accepted, the AASU advisor said that if that be, then there will protests across the Northeastern region of the country.
Bhattacharya has also claimed that the Amendment Bill is being forcefully dumped on the people of the northeastern region. Cautioning about the forceful dumping of the Bill, he said that all the devotion and belief towards the government will be lost.
Earlier, on Tuesday after the JPC hearing, CPM MP Mohammad Salim had said that the JPC is being pressurised by the government to submit its report at the Winter Session of the Assembly. Citing this reason, Salim said that the JPC will not be able to return to Assam for further hearing.
