Journalists from 10 ASEAN countries reach Guwahati on a three-day Assam visit

A team of 20 journalists from 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries arrives in Guwahati. They are on a three day visit to Assam under India-ASEAN Exchange programme. During the visit, the team will visit Guwahati IIT, Noonmati Refinery and call on the Chief Minister of Assam.

The visiting team comprises of two journalists from each of 10 countries viz. Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos PDR, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Myanmar and Philippines. Out of 20 visiting journalists, 13 are woman journalists.

As a part of the visit, today the team met Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam in-charge of Act East Policy Ravi Capoor. While interacting with the visiting journalists Ravi Capoor highlighted on the age old historical relations between Assam and ASEAN countries and stressed on exchange programme between North Easter States and ASEAN countries in terms of cultural and educational exchange programmes.

Highlighting the ASEAN-India Trade Agreement, Capoor also stressed on expanding trade relations among all the ASEAN countries for speedy economic development of the region. During the interaction programme, Secretary to the Govternment of Assam Moloy Bora and Deputy Secretary to the Govt. of Assam Sazzad Alam were present.

Members of the visiting team also stressed on better relations and proper coordination among the ASEAN countries for overall development of the region.

Later, the team also visited Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra and were highly pleased at the exhibits of the cultural heritage of Assam
