Jogighopa gets MMLP, No ‘Achhe Din’ for Ashok Mill

The Centre has decided to develop a Multi-Modal Logistics Park at Jogighopa in Assam to promote international trade with neighbouring countries.

Disclosing the project in a written reply to Barpeta MP Abdul Khalek, Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur said that the Union Government has already confirmed land availability for this project and Government of Assam will provide 200 acres of land.

Khalek also wanted to know Government's fresh stand on the revival of the Ashok Paper Mill, which was set up in October 1970, on 2,500 bighas of land at Jogighopa in Bongaigaon district spending Rs 31 crore.

The government has been striving to revive the paper mill but for many reasons, the government had failed to solve the issue. The government had signed with Hindustan Paper Mill corporation in this regard, but the same result had come out: Thakur added.

Ashok paper mill had the capacity to produce 100 tonnes of pulp and 90 tonnes of paper daily. A total of 1,700 workers were engaged in the Mill which was shut down in 1983 due to the alleged wrong policies of the State and Union Governments.
